I've been reading around that it's doesn't really affect anything pretty much (well except the slight risk to overextend the connecting ribbon) and you get the much needed viewing angle of your choice. So any brave guys here have done it intentionally and are happily living with it? Or maybe any links to demonstrate someone doing this?:):apple:

"Between the Hedges"
You mean like this ;)

I can't imagine someone intentionally breaking their screen
Especially as many threads as we get about lids not closing precisely
Or 1 dead pixel in the corner
Or... well you get the idea

But... to each his own

Are the problems related to the hinge breaking?

Of course the intent is not the 160 angle per se but the range from 120 to 160. That said I it's very, very comfy to use your laptop whilst in bed or lying down with your feet arched and 160 degrees is pretty much the angle you need there. Coming from the pc world I am accustomed to it a lot, I now some of you who have been apple fans can only remember that as far as the pismo or the ibook go. :apple:

Dear All,

Sorry but your guys are insane! :D There is a well known issue about the hinges. If you break it by purpose you will be 100% sure you don't get any warranty if you screen really break from the body.

With best regards,
Bas

What's the well known issue with the hinge?

What's the well known issue with the hinge?

See the following thread:

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/495259/

The issue is with the hinges coming so loose to where the screen cannot stay up on its own or wiggles a lot when open. I suspect that breaking the screen stops doesn't necessarily contribute to this (it's possible that they are orthogonal issues), but I would bet if you showed up with a screen that opens farther than the design range of 120/130 degrees and had the hinge slop issue, you would be denied out of hand.

instead of "breaking it" you can disassemble the MBA and remove the plastic stopper piece

Or to put this another way OP...

Has anyone tried to intentionally dislocate their shoulder so they can more easily scratch that pesky itch in their back?

(What do you mean doc...what's a "torn rotator cuff", and what the hell is this "subacromial impingement syndrome" thingie? Possible long-term effects you say? General anaesthetic? Are those painkillers? HOW long?!....)
