anyone try a R9 390x yet?

I have a 2006 Mac pro running a hd 5770 and 10.10.2. I got my hands in a xfx r9 390x and would like to use it.

Anyone running one yet?
Any issues?
Anything needed to make it work?

The card is extremely oversized for a 2006 MacPro, but it should work out of the box. Drivers are buggy though (only support 1 screen at a time, DisplayPort might stay black).

Oh, and when the card is pushed to the limit the power consumption will easily exceed what your MacPro can provide, thus causing a shutdown.

The state of GPUs is basically if a driver isn't available to download then you should wait until OSX includes it - and that happens when a Mac ships with proper support for that generation of GPUs.

Almost all R9's work with OS X, but with very mixed driver support.

GCN 1.0 cards (Cape Verde, Pitcairn, Tahiti) have very matured drivers and some of them can be DIY flashed.
GCN 1.1 cards (Bonaire, Hawaii) have drivers, too, but they are buggy (applies to R9 390X, see above)
Tonga based cards should work, but I never tried one (same card as in 5K imac)
Fury doesn't work yet.

Some of those cards have perfectly working drivers but will produce a black screen due to missing device ID in the kexts.

Go nVidia. They support their own drivers.
