Not enough space inside. The MOBO is much larger in the 3g, as is the battery. This is why the 3g is wider and deeper. MOBO might fit if you remove the battery and go external, but then you'd have to wire and carry an external battery. All around a no go just based off of size restriction, but there's more...........

The 3G uses open pressure fit connections so if you don't have everything lined up and in place as intended you have no connections. In the 2g everything is done with REAL connectors and you can hold the phone guts in your hands without the shell while the phone is running, but in the 3g everything must mount to the unibody of the phone to allow the pressure tabs to line up and make connection to the MOBO.

I would wonder why you wonder? Possible loss of a lot of money for no benefit and maybe a loss of capabilities.

Maybe because the plastic iPhone 3G keeps cracking and causing problems for people.

The first gen enclosure was much stronger.

I know this has been hotly debated but I, myself, prefer the first gen enclosure.

you think we will see a replacement back made of the same material the 1st gen was made out of ?
They did have a black replacement for the 1st gen at one point so im sure we will see something soon.

Damn i really miss the first gen housing as well, thinking of switching back to the older iphone but than ill be downgrading, not sure if its worth it just for the casing...
