Hello,
How are you?
I am wondering if anyone here upgraded straight from a mini 4 to a mini 5.
I have a 4 and I love the formfactor and light weight.
But I am wondering how much of an upgrade is the 5.
In paper, according to geekbench, the jump from the a8 to the a12 is massive! But does that translate to real life usage of the device?
Mainly for browsing, emails, forums, and such?
Also, some say the screen on the mini 5 is actually worse in quality than the 4 and it is so to keep the costs down.
Is this true?

Cheers!

I updated from a mini 4 to a mini 5. I feel the real life usage is definitely worth the upgrade. Browsing is much faster, as is reloading web pages etc. Overall, performance is much better with the mini 5 over the mini 4, in my opinion.

Regarding screen quality, my 5 is just as good as my 4 was. I traded my 4 in on the 5 so that helped with the cost as well.

I still have both and honestly the main reason for the upgrde for me were the pencil and LTE (I had bought a mini 4 64 WIfi at that time). The speed increase if very nice and the additional RAM means there hardly any refreshes. But for causal use the mini 4 is still capable. I use it as my bed device now. I still have an old mini 2 and that thing is unusable instead. If it’s your only ipad, it may be worth for the speed alone. But if you don’t find your mini 4 slow and don’t need the pencil, then stay with it.

I just bought the mini 5 today, coming from a sluggish original Air. Will be delivered tomorrow.

What about an iPad Mini 2 to an iPad Mini 5?

A Mini 2 is only 1 processor behind the Mini 4 (A7 vs A8) but with no Touch ID, a 5 generation jump by upgrading, triple the RAM and 64GB base storage, the Mini 5 seems a great buy. The Mini 2 isn’t getting iPad OS if that’s something you’d be interested in.

I was a long time mini 4 user and upgraded to the 5 on its release.

Totally worth it.

My wife still uses the 4 and it’s noticeably slower (to the point I get frustrated using it).

Mini 4 WiFi to Mini 5 cellular. Mini 5 is noticeably faster and more responsive. I don’t use the pencil that often, but like having it. Because the Mini 5 is cellular, I tend to take it with me when I think I may want a larger screen than my phone is when I’m out and about. Didn’t do that with the Mini 4. I haven’t regretted the upgrade for even a split second.

The mini 4 is closer in usability to the mini 5 than to the mini 2, regarless of generations and other specs. Mini 2 is a pain tu use beucase of lack of RAM

Idk it’s pretty much like using a bigger iPhone XS. It has the same processor, it’s not anything special tbh. It’s not really worth the upgrade from the 4 unless you want Apple support for ipados for a few more years.

Its weird that i have the iPad Mini 5 already. although its four generation ahead than iPad Mini 4 but why its super duper close to performance to mini 5 when i compared it to my cousins iPad Mini 4? But Comparing the speed of Mini 4 to Mini 2 (even its only 1 generation) A8 VS A7 it seems like its super FAR... like several seconds behind. after comparing my cousins mini 4 to someones iPad Mini 2 its weird huh? So is Geekbench just about the number?

It's a bigger iPhone XS with a better aspect ratio for media consumption.

The iPad mini 5 has a 3x more powerful CPU and a 9x more powerful GPU than the iPad mini 4. There are plenty of reasons to upgrade.

Upgraded a month ago to simply use the notetaking capability with the gen 1 pencil. Works like a charm and I love the form factor as well. Sold my Mini 4 on Ebay for a little more than $200.

That's me, upgrading from a mini 2 to a mini 5. It's a HUGE jump. Using the mini 2 in 2019 was okay, but not great. iOS11 nearly killed it. iOS12 helped, but you cannot escape 1GB of RAM. The mini 5 makes me enjoy using the iPad mini again. Only downside for me is that the mini 5 is physically taller than the mini 2.

I bought an iPad mini 4 128gb a few months ago in perfect conditions for $200. Looking at the market right now, I could sell it for around $300 and get a 64gb iPad mini 5 for $430.

Is the price difference worth it ? I would loose storage but I honestly don’t need 128gb and would be fine with 64. I’m just wondering if the upgrade is worth it for light gaming, YouTube, web browsing and what not..
