I've been thinking about getting an iMac to go alongside my other box. I have a Dell 24" monitor on my desk, and I was toying with the idea of using it as a second monitor for my iMac. Would the difference between the glossy (iMac) and matt (Dell) displays be distracting? Is anyone using a similar setup?

Hi, I have a 20" iMac and recently i got a 2nd display which is a 24" Dell (Dell 2408 WFP) unit. Its connected to the iMac using the DVI adapter. Setting it up was easy and it worked on the first try itself.

I find it less of a strain on my eyes with the matt display. I also reduced the brightness on the Dell as I could feel the heat from both the displays after some time. I don't do any gameing or photo editing. I find the combination works great for me.

Hope this helps you in making a decision.

I have a 17" MBP at work (glossy) that I run a 23" ACD (matte) off of as my main (2nd/dual) monitor and it is not distracting. I would not worry about having the two different finishes.
