Personally, I've used the other (i.e. free) methods of hacking my ATV. This doesn't do anything to increase storage, so I'm not sure what you are inferring there.

EDIT: Maybe you mean would this be worthwhile for an existing 160GB ATV. The answer is it depends on what you want to do with it.
 
Try to patch it on your own. (See Mr Kram's link).
If it doesn't work you can restore it (factory restore) n try a different method.

I was using the atvusb-creator. WAS.
Boxee and XBMC cannot use the Apple API for decoding movies. => It is not possible to watch HD movies via XBMC. So you have to invest another 50,- for a CrystalHD card that XBMC is able to use.

If you only want to stream data from a nas / anything else just go for it.
But do not spend money for something you can get for free with a little work...
