Has anyone tried/ had success using Siri via their car's bluetooth WITHOUT hitting the home button? In other words, can you press the call button or whatever you have on your steering wheel and activate Siri?

Using Siri in my 2010 RAV4 w/ built-in Bluetooth. All I do to activate Siri is hit the in-car Answer/Dial button. This brings her up!

I still have to hit the home button to use it.

Completely pointless in the car though, Siri is excellent at catching what I say when used out of the car.

With the road noise etc... it barely understands a word I say :(

I have to hit the home button, but it works AWESOME in my car

Using Siri in my car (2011 Honda Accord) makes me feel like I'm living Star Trek. On Saturday, I was texting back and forth with my wife while I was driving around. Having Siri read me the text messages and being able to reply using my natural voice was incredible. I did not have any issues with road noise at all. I did have to hit the home button on the phone to activitate, but that was it. The rest was completely hands free. Frankly, after using Siri this way, and the ease at which I can set reminders makes me bummed anytime I have to use the keyboard.
