Anyone using an Optimus G Pro?

I was looking at getting a Note 2 again but then I thought maybe I would get the Optimus G Pro. I'm looking for some real world reviews if you've owned one or currently own one. Mainly I want to know the following. Is the screen as great as professional reviews say it is? Is the battery life as good as the Note 2? Where does LG rank in terms of updates? How would it compare to other top of the line phones that you've used?

I'm currently using a G Pro and seriously thinking this will be my main phone at least for the next 6 months. I love it compared to the Galaxy S 4. After The novelty of the S4 gimmicks quickly wore off you have the horrible software optimization under some top notch hardware. It is extremely buggy compared to the G Pro.

What I love about the G Pro is the big bright screen. For me it's the perfect size. way easier to do one handed tasks on it. The UI is quick and speedy. Have had it since Monday and never experience any slowdown or bugginess.
Battery is nowhere near Note 2 status but it last me through the day if I tone down the brightness.

I hear LG is pretty good with updates so hopefully we'll have 4.2.2 in September or so. I'd be surprised if we'll get 4.3.

Thanks for the input. I've heard that the Optimus G is a great device and no one is talking about it so I assumed that the pro would be even better. I'm a little disappointed to hear that the battery life isn't up to Note 2 standards. In a normal day what is your screen on and total time off the battery before it needs to be charged?

In fact, LG is the worst, even lower than HTC in being timely.

For example, Optimus G launched last fall and came with ICS. JB just came out. This is ridiculous because the S3 launched months before and JB came out officially much faster than LG got around to it.

Haven't had the G Pro, but I did have the G for a few weeks.

Best thing about it was the super snappy performance from the LG skin, but that's about it. Battery life was crap (barely lasted a day) and the phone's RF was terrible. It would have no signal in places, where my Sammy devices would have a low and usable signal.

I got it right when it came out and it didn't even have Jelly Bean yet. Came with ICS in Fall 2012! The S3 was already running on JB at this point. Then I tried to turn to XDA to get JB and there was one Korean JB ROM port that was half korean, even after switching the language.

LG is last in updates. It just got JB, it seems.

And worst of all, I lost some money trying to resell it because no one wanted an LG device. Never again will I get an LG android phone.


Back on topic, I played with the G Pro. It's nice, but I'd stick with the tried and true Samsung Note 2. Why? It comes with a S-Pen and the software is better, especially with it receiving all the S4's tweaks in the near future. Plus if you get sick of it, Samsung phones have good resale, unlike LG products. I doubt the G Pro has the battery life of the GN2. Mine lasted over a day easily and this is with power saver off and constant use. No phone can match that.

Haven't seen an Optimus G on sale here anywhere - in fact very little LG phones seem to make it to carriers and retail stores here. I do prefer the LG skin of android - it's very close to stock whilst offering some nice additions.

I would opt for the G Pro over the Note 2 just because of the updated hardware. Plus the Note 3 will be out before you know it.

For those waiting for the Note 3, it apparently will have a 6 inch AMOLED screen.

I've played around with the Optimus G Pro at the AT&T store and it's about as large a phone that I would feel comfortable with.

This might have me getting an S4 now, I dont want a 6 inch PHONE! Looking at my Note 2, I suppose its possible to reduce the bezel on the sides and top and actually get to 5.9 inches without increasing the physical size. I would be ok with that but I dont want anything bigger or heavier.

Sounds pretty intriguing doesn't it? Bigger screen phones are becoming a thing now thanks to Samsung. I'm sure the Note 3 will be their best product yet.

I believe you read my long story about owning the G Pro for 3 days. If not you can read it by clicking my username.

I highly recommends the G Pro, but you need to be comfortable with a phablet. I found it to be too large and too heavy. I would not consider such a large phone again unless it had on-screen buttons and was substantially lighter. I think my personal limit for the weight of a phone is 5 oz.

Battery life appeared to be on par with my iPhone 5, so most likely not as strong as the Note II's. Personally I find the G Pro screen to be the best I have ever used. I strongly prefer IPS over OLED.

You most likely won't see 4.2 until this fall and by then you'll wish you were getting 4.3 or Key Lime Pie. LG is known for slow updates.

If you want a phablet now, go with the G Pro. If something 5" or smaller would work for you, there are a ton of choices.

A half inch is a big jump though. The S3 to S4 was only a 4.8 to a 4.99/5 inch.

Tried it extensively and was not impressed. The Note offers much more with the SPen. The only LG phone I purchased is the Nexus 4.

It has bad lag? I've heard the opposite in the reviews I've seen. I found a cheap Optimus G on ebay so I'm going to use that until I can either afford the S4 or HTC One or until the Note 3 comes out. I appreciate all the replies.

Sorry that was probably not the response you were after. I can't say about the Optimus G, but I've had alot of experience with the optimus line and most of their phones ( including their dual core offerings ) have been terribly laggy.

I just feel like LG has always been behind the curve, if you half care about making good handsets, then you'll get half a good handset. If they've gotten better that's great, but using the older androids like optimus 3d, optimus black even going back further and it's been nothing but trouble and lag for anyone I know who's used an LG phone. I suppose nowadays phone's are being stuffed with so much power it really comes down to preference doesn't it.

People like myself are always going to chime in with their experience, I could be completely wrong, the LG optimus G pro could be a killer device. Based on my past experience however, I tend to steer to other manufacturers.

I was the same way when I got my Nexus 4. Beautiful phone but I still believe they used cheap components to drive the cost down (horrible camera, bad screen, radio issues etc.) The G Pro is like night and day. Great screen, solid camera and flash, no lag. I love the phone.

In my 3 days of using the G Pro a great deal I experienced zero lag. Every review I've read seems to comment on how smooth the experience is.

I've experienced no lag with the Optimus G so I imagine the Pro is even better. It seems like LG has really nice devices in the Optimus series now. They just need to market it better.
