I'm a sucker and bought it to watch my ATV in bed (I can't fall asleep now unless Curb is playing). I've found it's really laggy, to scroll one show down to the next takes 5 seconds. The quality is okay, like a youtube video, but the menu overlay they have implemented just isn't a perfect fit for accessing the ATV. Maybe they will add different remote controls in an update....

maybe someone will come up with a small handheld device that can directly play the same video files as the apple TV, so you don't have to stream them over the network with the sling box?

ah I love this place, always someone willing to step up to the mark and make you feel dumb. An ipod/iphone filled with videos, as I think you're sarcastically describing, is never going to hold the same amount of stuff as my itunes library connected up to atv.

Because of the lag introduced by the buffer in a slingbox stream combined with the somewhat slow speed of the IR blaster on the slingbox, you will always have a noticeable lag. It takes a good 3 seconds to change a channel for me using the desktop SlingPlayer app - I haven't ponied up to the $30 to try it on an iphone yet.
