We have a long road trip coming up and I'd like to work most of the way.....anyone using an inverter in their car? Any recommended brands?

The MBP power plug only draws 80w, so a cigarette lighter inverter should be fine.....right?

Damn misspelled inverter in the title and I can't edit that =(

Most of the higher wattage units should work fine. I have a couple of them (100W and 200-300W). I've used them with the MBP. Had a power-failure at home and ran off a jump-start battery (18AH), for a while. Long enough for a movie, anyway. Check out frys.com, they should have a good assortment.

I've used an inverter much like this one with my iBook with no problems.

The notebook won't draw anywhere near 85 watts unless it's charging and you're running it at full bore at the same time. It'll be more like 35-40 watts most of the time. However, it's probably better to get a bigger, more solid one.

I have a Xantrex XPower 400 Plus Compact Inverter that I purchased from an Amazon marketplace seller for about $30 shipped. I use it for this and that; it's nice to have around.

In my Mazda6, I connect it to the adaptor that's in the armrest compartment, and then snake the cable through the little cable passthrough in the compartment and under the passenger seat. It's pretty inobtrusive. It has an on/off switch, so it can be left plugged in all the time.

I use some random power brick (I believe that I got it at a truck stop) with my MB, and as with some outlets and extension cords, the power brick gets really really unbelievably HOT. It still works, despite oddities, so I believe you'll be fine, as it really doesn't draw as much as it says.
