Anyone want to help me make a custom slider?

Ok so i want to make my own custom slider. I have already downloaded and template like slider and all i really want to do is put my image over the template image... "layer" I believe the term is. So if anyone know how to do this please walk me through the steps.


I am using gimp btw i didn't want to buy ps just to make one slider.

I used GIMP for my "graphics" when I made my themes. I'm not a graphic artist by any means but with a little trial and error I was good to go. This tutorial, tho old, should still be able to relay the concepts of layering a bit for yuou enough to help out:

Thank for the tutorial it helped a lot, it looks more and more like a real slider now.... it is almost done i just can't get rid of the original slider arrow...

the first one the skull ".psd" is the original template and the second one was before the tutorial you sent me and the third is after the tutorial.
