i was hoping someone might have their restore discs for a 12 powerbook that had version 10.3 or higher. We can work something out. I'd really appreciate it because my powerbook I just bought used has 10.2.8 installed and the tiger install disc I have needs the previous OS to be 10.3.x or higher. So if any of you feel compelled to help me, it would be much appreciated!

Thanks,
Collin

"Borrowing" would be illegal, but giving him the original discs wouldn't.

Anywho, you should just call AppleCare and order tihe right discs - they weren't much last I checked.

I didn't realize borrowing would be illegal and I apologize. I only asked because i can't spend too much more money on all of this. I don't have apple care on this powerbook (i just bought it used from someone) and I did a fresh install of the restore discs that came with it.

Would I still be able to buy them from apple?

Call AppleCare and tell them what you need - I bought these for an Ibook a while ago and don't remember them being outrageously expensive. Doesn't cost you anything to ask them. ;)

Alright I might try that angle too. Thanks for the heads up (especially on the legality issues!)

Getting hold of a boxed version of Panther would solve your problem. You can probably get one on Ebay cheap. Either that or just buy a boxed version of Tiger.

Yea. That would solve it, but I already bought a version of tiger...but I guess it's only the upgrade version? because it says I need at least 10.3 on my system to install it...

Where did you buy this version from? The only "upgrade" versions of Tiger like that are the "up to date" DVDs that Apple ship out, if you bought a new Mac a month before Tiger came out. Did you pick it up off Ebay? If so the guy ripped you off.

Well, what happens when I put it in is...the computer restarts...it starts going through the click continue...and then it says you must have version 10.3 on your system to install this disc...and then it says click restart to load your mac...The label on the DVD says "CPU Drop In"...I bought it off a guy on macnn.com
