I have decided I am going to buy mine through them because of 3 year warranty/replacement plan. I just called my nearest best buy and they said it could be anywhere from 1-2 weeks. I am PRAYING that it is sooner, I am dying here!

i don't know anything about bestbuy's warranty/replacement plan, but wouldn't they just replace your ipod with a 5.5 generation model they already have in stock?

The guy at Best Buy seemed to sure think they were getting new ipods in soon. He said they haven't had any ipods in at least 2 weeks and that is a sign he said. He knew all about the announcement and everything. I am just hoping they get them in sooner.

Someone here said that when her battery went out on her 4th generation after about a year or so they didn't have the battery on hand so she got a new 5.5 generation.

my thinking is that they might have leftover 5.5g models in stock. in which case, it might be better for you to wait on the replacement.

I do not think hers is broke and therefore I do not believe she is wondering if her non-existent broken iPod will be replaced by the even more so non-existent new 6th gen iPod that some ranom kid at Best Buy said would be in.

Apple tends to fill up the distribution channels fully when their new iPods come out. I expect the Apple Stores to get them first, and Best Buy to get them by Friday, September 7, 2007.

The guy at Best Buy is full of @#$& like everyone else who works there... He doesn't know squat...trust me.

I have to agree, no one who works at the BB store front has any idea when the new iPods are coming out. Period. Heck, not even people who work at Apple Retail know. Retail stores won't know until they are announced. That's just the way it is.

I really really don't believe in the BB extended warranty. I worked at the sister company (FS) and you wouldn't believe the story behind those warranties...

Well, yesterday I went to Victoria's Secret to buy my hair gel and shampoo. The shelves were pretty bare and they did not have either item that I needed. Today I went to Mission Viejo Mall to that Victoria's Secret and they had conditioner but no shampoo and they had my hair gel. I bet that if I had asked if VS Very Sexy Shampoo and Conditioner were being updated they would have told me without a doubt!

In all seriousness, low stock at Best Buy may mean something, but the dude at Best Buy can hardly speak intelligently about a PC let alone be equipped with enough information to tell you what day new iPods would be released.

Haha, the Best Buy warranty program is a huge joke. I know that they all sit in the stock room and joke about how stupid people are for buying it. I've been a victim of it. I had an 8 month old laptop (HP) die on me... nevermind, I wont even get into it.

DONT BUY ANYTHING UNDER THE BEST BUY WARRANTY PROTECTION PROGRAM... EVER... ITS A JOKE, you wont ever be satisfied with it.

I think you meant to quote queshy.

I have had very different experiences with their warranty.

Once they replaced my 4G iPod with a 5G iPod when I told them the battery wasn't lasting long enough.:)

At FS we loved the warranties...the margin on them is huge. FS gets a ton of $ and in return the customer gets something printed on their bill!

How do you get salespeople to sell warranties even they don't believe in? Easy. 12% commission on warranties. Even though BB are non-commissioned, they get commission for PSP (product service plan). That is why salesmen are so eager to sell it. To make things worse, the PSP for apple laptops are prohibitively expensive...and way more than applecare! So if somebody buys a PSP for lets say $300, as a salesman you would make 36 bucks.

Those warraties are a total waste of money. I bought my first ever Mac, an iBook G4, at BestBuy and was pressured to get the warranty. So I did, which was stupid. In 7 months, the logic board died, so I went to BestBuy and they said they CANNOT do anything within the first year of the warranty because it has warranty from Apple. What the hell did I pay for then?

But anyways, I was there yesterday and they only had three 2GB nanos left, and five 30GB videos left in the glass case. Everytime I go there, it's filled to the max. And also they're all on sale. So it means they're definitely clearing them out for new iPods.

actually, apple is the rare exception. normally the PSP starts exactly 5 days after your purchase. but for apple stuff, the salesman is supposed to tell you that the BB warranty only starts after apples.

I work for my local Best Buy....I'm a Cashier and selling Service and Replacement plans is basically what my managers push all day on us. Our service and replacement plans are a total joke as everyone has already said...for those of you planning on getting an iPod from best buy, don't be suckered into getting the service plan. Half of the stuff they say it covers is not covered and if by some chance it is, you will go through hell when you have to back to best buy and try to get it fixed. Just a warning.

I've personally never had a problem with iPod PSPs purchased at BestBuy. Every single iPod I've owned has been from BB, and they've all been covered by PSPs. I remember, however, that when I had my first two models (2nd gen & 3rd gen) that the plan was a replacement plan, not a service plan. Essentially, they would replace the iPod outright instead of sending it in for repair. This was also in a time when BB didn't have dedicated MP3 player PSPs, and instead filed them under general audio/video PSPs.

I have only ever actually purchased one iPod (the 2ng gen one). Each subsequent iPod I possessed was a result of the previous model dying and the replacement being covered by the PSP. I've only recently had minor issues with my 4th gen, as BB had to send it out a three times since I received it. It's recently been having drive problems (spins up, then down constantly), and they've been stalling since it'll be the 4th time it's been sent out. They claim to have been able to restore the thing's software, but it still doesn't boot up. I just think the people at my store are completely incompetent. Granted, I haven't used my iPod as much for this reason, and it doesn't bother me as much since I would've waited for 6G iPods, anyway.

Back in the past, BB's service plans used to be very good, but since they've switched to the "four strikes" rule, it's gotten tougher to get your iPod replaced under the plan. Aside from any problems I've encountered, I still believe it's a much better deal than AppleCare, but probably not as good as extended warranty coverage your credit card company may offer.

Believe it or not but an iPod only gives like 5 bucks commission - salesmen make their $ on PSP and on accessories (sometimes a case can give just as much!).

I sold computers though - not mp3 players. With the commission factored in, FS actually has a negative margin after selling a macbook alone.

I live in Indiana and I went to Best buy on 12th and they had every new ipod except ipod touch 64g :(

Both local stores told me end of this week.... they said it all depends when UPS will make the delivery. So keep calling your local stores and ask them daily (altho many sales people have ZERO product knowledge in best buy).

It was funny the day Apple released new ipods they closed local Apple store to renovate it. Many were standing by the door in shock.
