As the SDK is new, and people are writing their first apps for the iPhone, we're seeing lots of Tip Calculators, non-synchable ToDo apps and so forth.
I'm wondering how long it will be until developers tackle the kind of apps you see for other platforms (like stuff sold on Handango) where you can manage your finances, create/edit documents, create and update databases -- and synch it all with your PCs and Macs. I've been packing an iPaq for many years now, and I'm used to apps like:
See the class of apps I'm talking about?
From what I've read, the iPhone has a potentially more powerful and capable OS than Pocket PC and others. However, I'm also reading that the SDK is also intentionally crippled in some ways. That seems foolish, since Apple is testing every app to make sure it doesn't do anything that could harm the user's system -- unlike the app distribution for the other platforms.
Purely from observation, it seems like Apple wants the iPhone to be only an entertainment platform -- music, other media, games. I hope the SDK becomes a LOT more robust over the next few releases.
Anyone else looking/hoping for the same? Or am I the kind of user who represents too small a market to be worth pursuing?

- Documents to Go
- Phat Notes
- HanDBase, Pocket Quicken
- Pocket Mirror
- Resco Explorer (Ok, this is different, but I crave file system control!)
- (Ok, we've got eWallet, but it doesn't do the important part -- sync!)
