Firstly, hello to everyone on these forums, I am a complete and utter newbie to these forums and to mac products, so I'll keep it short and concise so hopefully someone will feel like sharing their good advice with me.

1. I have a service with AT&T, although I do not have an iphone (yet), so you might say I have "standard" AT&T service. Also, (if this is relevant), it is through the business I work for, and we are on the new AT&T; we are NOT still on the older sim cards.

2. I would love to get an iphone, but as you probably know they do not offer any iphones for business accounts, period. I called AT&T last night to confirm this.

3. This leaves me with the option of buying an iphone and then unlocking it so that I can (theoretically) use my existing sim card with it.

Are there any problems with this? Also, what is the best way to purchase an iphone if I have no desire to actually activate it "for real"? Is this where a "fake" activation would come in handy?

What I'm really looking for is a little direction on how to go about this. My plan is currently to sell my old phone, buy an iphone without a contract (or don't activate it or whatever -- I don't know how that works yet), unlock it, and then simply use my existing sim card. Which brings me to the question; what method (i.e anySIM or Sim Free) is best for doing this?

So, are there any problems with my plan or does that sound ok? What is the best way to purchase an iphone for this purpose (i.e in an AT&T store or online) and lastly, will I be able to take advantage of visual voicemail since my carrier is AT&T (even though it's not an iphone sim card)?

Thanks in advance

Lucas

ok, well you will need to buy it from apple so you aren't forced into a data plan. You won't be able to get visual voicemail unless you get the data plan. You also won't be able to use the EDGE network, so you can only get on the web with wi-fi.

Your best bet is to use anysim (the free one). When you get your iPhone, you'll need to downgrade it to 1.1.1 (instructions HERE), and the install appsnapp on your unactivated iPhone (instructions HERE), and from there install and run anysim. I would stay with 1.1.1 for the moment.

best solution if you like to do updates without worrying about your phone getting bricked pay 60 buck to simfree they have good stuff and well anysim is free and does not have support and its a pain to revirginize constantly if your willing to pay 60 bucks like i did and dont regret it then go for sim free.

What is "revirginizing" and why would I do it constantly?

revirginize is the process of restoring your iphone to remove all hacks and apps. You would do it every time a new firmware comes out and you want to upgrade
