Is there anything else you can do (or anything else worth installing I guess) besides XBMC after jailbreaking? I can't really find any information regarding the subject. Seems like Apple TV is really an afterthought in the jailbreak community. Hell, if it wasn't the exact same hardware and software I doubt they'd even bother releasing jailbreaks for it : (

Plex. I used an older release of PLEX and it was a pain to load movies..and then find them! I switched to XBMC but didn't care for the interface. A new try at PLEX Nine reveals a slick client-server product. Very easy setup. I detest iTunes and its goofy interface, mediocre quality, narrow format choices and proprietary argy bargy. PLEX makes it easy now to view my movies and TV shows.

Plex: I couldn't get it working on 4.3.1 jailbroken w/ Pwnage but admittedly, I didn't troubleshoot too much since XBMC had no sound w/ the Pwnage jailbreak. I opted to downgrade to 4.2.1 & stay with XBMC. I have to admit, the Plex interface was enticing so I may revisit it once more of the issues are worke out.

XBMC also has a far superior YouTube app than either Plex and ATV's horrible and damn near useless version.
With XBMC's plugins, you can basically watch any type of video content available online either via IceFilms or the Navi-X app (heaven sent), you don't have these option in Plex. And all of the plugins that are available in Plex are available in XBMC as well.
But possibly the best reason to choose XBMC >>> >Plex is for the option to stream directly from your NAS, and not rely on Plex's server running. It's annoying that Plex's server needs to be running in order for the Plex app (either on iOS or Mac) to work.

After getting Plex working on 4.2.1, I must say that I don't get what all of the fuss is about. It is a pretty interface but that's about all I can say. Movies that don't need transcoding (mp4) sort of play - but start to buffer almost immediately causing the playback to stop & resume. And that's without attempting to ffwd or rew which results in an black screen so you can't see where you are in the video. Playing avi's has all of the same problems - only worse. None of my videos play at all using the Plex client on my iPad.
I guess my problems may be at least partially related to an underpowered Mac Mini where the Plex server is running. But that doesn't explain the issues with iTunes compatible media that plays back perfectly fine on the native AppleTV interface. Also, all of my media plays back fine on XBMC.
I am not trying to trash Plex as it seems it works well for others but it's not usable in it's current form for my purposes. Perhaps it will improve with time but am not sure I get what advantage the client-server transcoding model has when XBMC plays back the same media without the need for a server.

Thanks for those, I hadn't heard of them. I installed them and tried them out. I can see why they're not on Plex. They're bloody ugly. Aesthetics are important to me and the interface of these plugins are repulsive. I hope someone can improve the look of these plugins.

They weren't the nicest looking plugins and although XBMC is customizable, it still looks bad. But XBMC and its plugins are still very good (when working of course).
I have been using flex as i couldn't get my head around XBMC. Flex was so easy to get running just downloaded it on my mac and added it to my atv. I couldn't work out how to watch films on my hardrive using XBMC ???

Absolutely! Why choose when you don't have to? Both have their strong points, though I am a very big fan of the latest Release Candidate version of Plex for iOS.
