So we've probably all heard of this new fiber optic cable from Japan to the US. Check this article out here:

http://betanews.com/2016/07/01/google-60tbps-undersea-cable-us-japan/

The headline calls it "Google's undersea cable" even though Google didn't build and is only one sixth of the funding source for it. That's one of the things I hate about the tech community, and Google, in general.

Another instance. Ever hear of someone saying "Google Earth found" something or other? People make it seem that the imagery is coming from Google, even though Google does not own or operate imagery satellites.

People, come down from the clouds. Google does not own everything tech related, did not create or invent everything tech related. Please, get a grip on yourselves.

Meh, I felt the same about Apple, they take credit for others inventions, don't invent anything much at all, buy companies and take credit for the incumbent property and so on.
I got over it eventually......

Google does the same thing. But when the evidence clearly shows information to the contrary, it is still labeled as being Google's.

They all do it really. Apple is the worst/best of the bunch in my opinion.

But good on them, people believe them and they've made billions on the back of others or absorbed inventions.

Google have some catching up to do, they're doing it wrong.

On the cable thing. Who cares. The article you link to is the media calling it Google's cable, not Google.

On Google Earth. I think you're being harsh. Ok so the source imagery's not being provided by Google. But I assume it's Google who is stitching everything together and packaging into it into a platform that everyone can access and that has provided such a valuable knowledge and discovery tool. IMO, that's the profound part of Goolge Earth. Not the source imagery.
