Anything like Mac OS Extended,(Journal, Encrypted) for SSD connected to Airport and updated by iPad?

Hi,

Is there a way I can password protect a SSD connected to an Airport router? I create new files on the iPad and save them to the SSD, but I need to encrypt them. Unfortunately if I format in Mac OS Extended (Journaled, Encrypted), the drive cannot be seen by the iPad.
