I found the mov format 1080p trailers on the apple site only cost you 25% of the cpu to play smoothly, while the mkv takes much more cpu even by using Plex. Guess the mov format is supported by the hardware acceleration of the graphic card.

1. I'm not particular sure what type of video format of .mov of the trailers on the apple website?
2. Is there anyway we can convert mkv to .mov format?

Many thanks.

1) Why did you post this in the Macbook Air forum?

2) Did you try googling "mkv to mov"?

3) Look into visualhub / handbrake

sorry, I didn't mention I'm using MBA. the overheating problem has been bothering me when watching 1080p HD even after I used the coolbook. Thanks for the answer. I tried to convert .mkv to h264 .mp4. now it plays smoothly with 30% of cpu in VLC.:)
