I want my desktop to simply be the icons. Reason being, i am using Kobhens theme, and would like to have the name be in the icon, and not repeated below. Any way of making the name transparent or anything else?

rightclick on the folder>get info. On name and Extension, just delete the name and then click on the arrow next to "name and extension". it will then have no name under the folder, but when you click on it, it will have a rectangular buble (lol) under it only when you click on the folder.

I figured that may be my only option. I was hoping for something to just hide it so the icons would be closer.

You could make the file name font size smaller, the icon size bigger and tighten the grid. Use the "Show View Options" command under the View menu in Finder.

Just click rename the older and press space (for the name). For each folder click one more... So first folder would be space, second double space etc. Worked for me :)

I hope you don't have a Desktop or Finder meltdown. Folders and Files are safer elsewhere. You interact with the Desktop so often, and it's easy to accidentally do something with those items being so accessible.

A couple years late, but I was looking icons / naming of folders in finder and one of the work-arounds I found there could help here.

Rather than renaming the original folders with blank spaces, make an alias of that folder, then rename. It's still not a perfect solution, but it will help keep your file names intact.

I'm not familiar with the Kobhens theme you mentioned, but this will work a bit better if still applicable.
