Thought it might be interesting to focus on community members’ constructive suggestions for the future improvement of AOD. Who knows, Tim Apple may be reading…

I know there are already some AOD complaint threads but the idea here is to discuss how to make this feature better rather than to decry its current state (or threaten to return devices over it). Like all software features, it’s bound to evolve over time. How would you like it to?

Here are some of my suggestions, feel free to add your own.

- Option to override energy-saving logic and have AOD remain on… always

- Option to have AOD only be on when there are unacknowleged notifications

- AOD as an independent configurable screen (e.g. different wallpaper and widgets than Lock Screen)

- Option to allowlist/denylist apps from notifying on AOD (independent of elsewhere)

- Landscape AOD

No. There always be a bunch of people who will complain about something and if you give anyone anything they want, you will just end up with a confusing, overloaded mess. So why bother? 🤷‍♂️

Thanks for the response! I think most would disagree and would enjoy additional configurability being added to AOD. It seems only inevitable that this will happen over time, but the question is what would be the best features to add?

Of course most people will disagree, because most people think what they want is the right thing to have.

AOD right now is horrible... right now my 14Pro is on my desk and it literally looks like the screen is fully on.

Exactly I love more choices. All those things you listed sound great

My biggest one is with the battery widget. You can only see one device at a time. If I use my Airpods, it will override my Apple Watch battery info. If I try using two battery widgets, they will both display for the same device. I would love to glance at both the same time.

All I really want is the option to remove the wallpaper from AOD and have a black screen with the content over the top. That would massively alleviate the 'too on' problem as the only visible content would be time, widgets, and notifications.

If you compare the brightness of something like the clock with an Android equivalent, the iPhone isn't brighter. But because the entire screen is always on, in colour, it feels wrong. Having a simple black wallpaper in AOD mode would change that.

You can click each widget while editing and change from Automatic to the device you want to monitor:
