Aperture library on a windows shared drive?

Hello, is this possible? i have a drive on my windows box thats set up as a shared volume and i would like to keep my library there as the 120gb drive in my macbook pro is a little on the small side to really store anything.

the problem i have is aperture says there was a problem moving the library and stops after that.

so is it possible to store a library on a windows shared drive or am i missing something.

I just went through the Aperture Help file and there is a lot of mention of using other disks and storage devices for referenced files, but no mention of those files being on a shared computer. I've heard of people using dedicated servers and such, but not shared drives on another computer. You might not be able to do this.

How are the devices connected? Wireless or other standard networking might be too slow. USB at least.

they are connected over home network, wireless from the rMBP and wired to the windows box, if its not possible its no big deal was more of a test to see if it could be done because my couch is much more comfterble then my computer chair lol.

and yes external drive works just fine, just did not want the hastle of the external wires.

I've never really considered this, but my guess would be no, it's probably not possible. How is the shared volume formatted? NTFS?

Your aperture library is essentially a container and I don't think the windows shared volume will be able to interpret that container to then share it with your mac.

This is just a complete guess though, so I could be completely wrong. But my recommendation is to be VERY careful if you do try it (make sure you've got a good backup of all drives concerned).

If external wires bother you that much, the corsair voyager air is an external HDD with built in wireless. I assume you'd be able to format it as extended journaled and access your library wirelessly from that. It'll probably be painfully slow though.

the drive is NTFS, thanks for the HDD recommendation, pretty sure thats what I'm going to end up doing

simpler to just buy one and not worry about the problems lol
