I'm guessing that's a mockup of the "flat" iPhoto, as there's nothing of interest for pros there....

Personally what I want out of the updated Thunderbolt display is colour calibration and some sort of G-sync capability which would allow machines with lower end GPU's the ability to handle those 4K resolutions smoothly.

Same, we've all been waiting for an updated TBD display, which might happen sooner than later since Thunderbolt 2 is being worked into all the newer devices. One can hope, right?

A 4K display with integrated GPU, allowing even an older Mac to use it would be great. Would Apple do it though, as it would push costs up?

In addition to increasing the price of such a display.
Even though Apple wouldn't make such a display backwards-compatible, they could potentially use such a technology with new MacBooks. I'd be interested in having a combo of the fabled 12" Air and a 27" display that could manage 4K.

My brand new Late 2013 13" Retina MBP isn't likely to handle 4K on it's own, I can't imagine if Apple immediately refreshed the rMBP the technology would make any difference. Apple has typically been very good about making their older machines work with new tech, to a point that is.

AC spec wifi and thunderbolt are two recent examples. If machine does not have the needed chips and ports a OS update can not solve the problem. Another example, TB2 has the bandwith for both 4k @60 and USB 3. Only newest 15" rMBP and Mac Pro have the ports and chipset.

Nope. iPhoto and Aperture are dead. It's all about the Photos app showing you all your photos in one giant grid.

That's it No aperture X/4.....so that's me done. Been trialling Capture One and thats where I'm off to. The iPhoto enhancement doesn't seem worth hanging around for until later in the year.

Adobe just doesn't do it for me and I'd rather support Pixelmator than Photoshop for my uses on top of Capture One!

Gonna miss my Nik addins but what can you do. This can't carry on regardless.

It's pretty obvious they want Mac users to use the photos app. I bet they said, "Our users only adjust the crop, straighten, change the exposure and saturation. They need no other tools."

Why give us an app that does what iPhoto already does?

Gotta agree - "Photos" seems to be an iPhoto killer...and certainly at least an Aperture "ignorer".

I don't blame Apple for pursuing the masses...that's where the $$ is I suppose. Just disappointed to be so intellectually "invested" in Aperture and not hear a word about it today. Now perhaps WWDC isn't the place for Aperture announcements...after all, we only really heard today about Mac OS and iOS...nothing about any other apps.

Hope springs eternal...can't see Apple totally abandoning we photographers (pro and pro-sumer alike) who want more that Photos or iPhoto provide.

But perhaps that's naive...sigh...

well they did update the SDK for Aperture recently..

there's really not much to improve upon, since it's perfect as is, except to add multi-user databases for large photo organizations.

I'm not knocking it as a DAM....it is the best. They have got to update the tools though. They are lagging so far behind.

But what developer is going to concentrate on Aperture with no certainty of longevity on the software from Apple. We are already seeing excessive periods for RAW conversions for new cameras - 6 months for the XE-2.

I would just like to see some love in the form of barrel correction etc. basic stuff now for a pro app!

there's really not much to improve upon, since it's perfect as is, except to add multi-user databases for large photo organizations.

Yes a multi-user database would be good. but also..

1) an easy way to distribute files over multiple computers and storage devices and have a unified search ability.

2) multi-user means some files might not be readable or writable to some users. This has to play into #1 above. It has to be able to search other Aperture libraries on other computers and external drives.

3) VIDEO has to be integrated. I have having to import stills and then import video to two different apps and two different libraries. Apple needs to fix this.

The above is actually huge change

Editing tools. One idea is to remove them ALL. What they should do is work on seamless integration with some image editing software. Lt Aperture be a DAM and raw converter only and then they offer an editor or allow a third party editor. But it has to be truly seamless, not like you are opening a different app and transferring data.

Apple REALY needs to drop the secrecy round pro apps. Who wants to base a business work flow around software that might go away next week. Apple needs to publicly commit to LONG TERM support, meaning at least 2 or 3 years out.
