All reports from the Apple store are 3 weeks. I don't believe there's any official release date set.

I don't see why they announce running software then wait so long to release. They said it would ship in November I believe, now when? End of December?

Yeah, it makes almost as much sense as making newer Mac Mini's and still not announcing them 2 months later.

They probably weren't quite finished with the software. Or maybe just cleaning up the documentation.

In any case, Apple doesn't usually update the shipping estimate on products that haven''t started shippipng yet. So the fact that the Apple store still says 3 weeks for new orders at this point doesn't necessariiy mean much.

Thanks guys - two weeks ago. my local store said they were expecting it at the same time as the Quads (sometime this week) but i am keen to check it out before buying a new system

cheers

I'll be taking a CD of images into the Apple Store when they get Aperture on their machines. See if Aperture does what I need it to.

Although one wonders how long between a new camera coming out and support for it in Aperture appears. (For example the just announced Nikon D200 due to ship next month.)

Well maybe a month or so, they have to build their own "color profile" for the camera.

Bear, I'll be doing exactly that. One of the key issues for me is the speed of the conversion. I shoot a 1DSII so the RAW files are pretty big and 16bit tiffs are 96-100mb. I had a play with a twin on C1 and it was good but not fast enough.
I am really, really hoping that Aperture does what it looks like it will. It will make my life a great deal easier.
As for updates, as Jared said, it is normally a few weeks but Adobe often have a beta out pretty much as soon as the body is released whilst C1 can take months....

my main concern as a photographer is apples setup of how files are stored...the whole library concept that iPhoto scares the hell out of me considering if i wanted to find an original photo in iPhoto...it takes forever. My photomechanic works great, and a new version of photo station is coming out as well...will this piece of software take over for them...thats the question...who knows...

I think there are a lot of togs sitting on the fence for precisely this reason. If Aperture is as good as it looks, i think it could well replace Photo Mechanic types apps, C1 etc and backup apps in one hit. But that's a big IF...

Can't wait to see how it runs on an G5 iMac at the local apple store. Amazon has it at a $50 discount right now $449.
