Apple has stopped Aperture long time ago (I don't understand why). Now only that terrible Photos application remains. No plans or rumours to create some acceptable professional photo application ?

BTW - I installed Aperture in Catalina, does not seem to work.

What can be comparable to Aperture for clever bulk photo storage ? (and less stupid than Photos?)

Lightroom or Capture are primarily RAW photos editors. I have great catalogue photos storage in mind ...

Lightroom is far from just an editor. It has extensive photo management features built in.

I’m not sure that’s fair on Lightroom. Certainly, as I mentioned, Capture One has weaker DAM features but Lightroom is reasonable in that area: have you actually tried it? Maybe look at ACDSee? It seems to have strong DAM features but I’ve never used it

I used Lightroom for several years ... it has very weak photo storage and management capabilities. Capture ONe is much better RAW photo editor, still not meant for photo storage.

Perhaps you can expand on what you found better about the DAM side of Aperture than Lightroom? I preferred Aperture but that was mostly the editing capabilities and the easy of use (I just don‘t like the way Lightroom works in that respect).

Install Retroactive 1.9 Boom Working Aperture!...and if you're Camera is not supported drag the Raw Files onto DNG Convertor and then Aperture will recognize the DNG's.....

I checked ACDSee and splashed the stupid Photos into toilet quickly ...

Currently for my modest workflow (30K) I use PhotoMechanic for the first choice and metadata then I switch to CaptureOne for post-production and I have structured a catalog with subdivision into folders for the various themes. . I saw that the latest release of photomechanic also included a catalog but I haven't delved into it yet

I've switched from Aperture to Capture One.

I had tried Lightroom a few years back - one of my cameras came with a license. I really hated the UI and gave up on it pretty quickly. Now that it's subscription, it pretty much ensures that I'll never touch it again.

After a few months pining for Aperture (and having almost stopped using my SLR and reverting to my phone camera) I got used to using Photos.

However, for the last few months, editing photos (either on iOS or Big Sur - do they share the same code??) has trashed the IPTC data. Even the Title added in Photos (underneath the photo thumbnail) won't be exported once any edits have been made. The Caption moves from IPTC fields to an EXIF field. It's a mess.

I make use of Title and Caption to sort my photos and am irritated I can't even crop on my phone without this messing up.

Apart from that rant above, I find Photos fine :) My photos are individually on disk in folders, not bundled in the photo library though.
