app badges permanently displaying "0"

I can't find a fix for the following problem: after jail-breaking I have ssh'ed the apps 'Things' and 'BeeJive' onto the iphone. Both programs open and work flawlessly, but their badges display 0 after I exit the applications. I have tried creating a 'today' event in Things, but this doesn't seem to affect the badge count at all.

Note: I did not install backgrounder and it is a fresh jailbreak.
Mail.app is not affected and displays the badge count correctly as new mails come

I think that you have Backrounder? if you disable that, it should work.

The thing is that I have never installed backgrounder! I even made a fresh jailbreak to try if the problem would remain on a clean install. I am clueless.
