Just curious about this... I seem to only see pictures of the iPad showing only rows of 4 apps each on the home screen. Why do they make a device that has over 4x the screen area yet not be able to display more apps per screen than the iPhone/iPT? I think due to the larger resolution and subsequently the spacing, you get more rows than the iphone, but still just 4 wide? The gaps between the icons are huge. You could easily fit 6 or more icons in that dock...

Anyways, I'm not really complaining persay because I don't know the capability for sure, but rather wondering if anyone saw pics or video showing the iPad with a home screen full of apps, and does it ever get more than 4 wide?

Because of how wide and tall the display is compared to iPhone, it would be very cumbersome to find apps on a page with the iPhone's spacing.

The new os looks like it would make implementing new groups of icons like folders pretty easily. Instead of scrolling nine screens over to find the app have the main screen with Games, Apps, Work, Play, etc that then open a new page with the apps in them.

the problem is the os is borked..

if apple were smart, they would have multitasking, and that empty home screen would have always on active widgets... like say a cool clock, a cool weather widget, etc..

Yeah, the iPhone home screen UI really falls apart at that size. I really would of thought they would of improved the ability to launch apps with the new screen size. It seems odd that they would require users to have pages and pages of apps, when they could easily provide a better way of displaying apps.

Making the icon's size adjustable would be nice. I'm sure they wanted to keep it nice a minimal and clean to show off the backgrounds/wallpaper for the presentation.

Widgets are probably coming in 4.0. I hope so because the huge grid of icons on the iPad is not really a pretty sight.

I don't think it does. Not that I have seen

Maybe they will come up with a setting to customize this further
