Hi folks, just had a weird behavior on an iPad Pro M1 recently updated to 18.1.1: after updating a few apps on the App Store, I saw that all of a sudden DaVinci Resolve (DR from now on) gets downloaded and installed all by its own in my home page. Yes I did install this app on the iPad a few months ago, but just before updating the apps today, I uninstalled DR as I needed it no longer.

Does anyone have a clue on what might have happened? I suppose it was just a bug, because I have automatic ”Download Apps” toggle in the App Store Settings turned off. Could it be that although DR was supposed to be completely uninstalled, some components still remained on the system and the App Store just “updated” (reinstallled) the app even though it did not appear no more in the Apps that needed updates list on App Store?

Also, perhaps it could be related to the fact that I downloaded and installed DR on a Mac via Mac App Store a few days ago, nevertheless I see that the iPad version and the Mac versions show as two different apps, not the same app compatible with the two platforms (example: Death Stranding appears as an iPhone, iPad and Mac unique purchase; on the opposite, when I downloaded DR a few days ago on my Mac it was registered as a first time purchase, even though I purchased it for the iPad a few months ago as mentioned). So, even if I had the “Download Apps” toggle on on my iPad (which is not the case), it should not download automatically.

I have no reasons to think that any of my devices have been compromised, but obviously my worst fear is that they could have been hijacked somehow. Apple ID settings doesnt show anything out of place. Any comment would be much appreciated, thanks!

As a quick note, no, I dont share my AppleID with any family member.

Are you unable to delete it now?

My crystal ball is broken, no clue what steps might have led to this behavior. I can’t imagine why someone would “hijack” your devices in order to insidiously install Davinci Resolve ;) so likely the delete just didn’t go as planned or it was inadvertently included in the updates or ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Regardless, here you are with DR installed but unneeded. Touch & hold, “Remove App,” “Delete App” should solve it. If it doesn’t, then further analysis is needed.

Thanks for the reply @FreakinEurekan ! Actually an uncompleted uninstall of DR and an immediate further massive app update on App Store + a bug is what makes the most sense to me too, unless someone hijacked my system and therefore the strange behavior, but, I guess I will never find out unless I reset my Apple ID security and restore all my devices, which I dont have time to do XD

Yes, I did normally uninstall DR after it auto-installed ;)

Cheers!
