my friend suggested lose it. anything else? alternatives? suggestions? thanks

myfitnesspal is amazing! you create a profile and based on how much you wanna lose/gain it will present you with your calorie goal. you just log what you ate for breakfast lunch dinner snacks and you can log any exercise you did its a great free app!

Sparkpeople.com is a great website and they also have an app for the Iphone it's a great tool and completly free!

When serious about watching/controlling my weight, I really like Daily Burn. They also have a food scanner to scan barcodes of everyday foods to get the nutrition info.

I have been using lose it for about six months. So far I have lost 60 pounds.

Works really well, if, you are willing to actually stick to it.

I've been a paid user of mynetdiary.com and their iPhone app. It's pretty good but I don't love it. Based on the comments above I'm thinking Lose It may be a better bet.

Lose It.

Had to enter a lot of food items up front. The database was weak when I started using it. Not sure if it has improved now. But it wouldn't matter.

Once the food and exercise data was in, I was able to reuse those items...sometimes entire meals. Became very easy...less than 5 minutes per meal...sometimes seconds.

Need to stay with it religiously. Enter everything. I lost 30 lbs and won a "biggest loser" contest at work. Hmmm. not sure the contest was about weight though.

I like LoseIt! and Fatsecret. Lately, I've been liking fatsecret better than LoseIt as you can log online or on your iPhone or iPad and they all sync together. I like that feature a lot!

I like LoseIt. The food database is not crazy, but a lot of stuff in there anyway. The interface is straightforward, data is presented pretty obviously... it is actually easy to use.

Weightbot is neat, but gimmicky, graphs are crippled by gimmickery.. still, I paid for it and use it, as it's purty quick to enter daily weight and it does export, so you can analyze data in Excel. The Weightbot designers don't "get it" when it comes to graphs and what data people losing weight want from their data (for example, it doesn't give you an averaged-out/smoothed-out current weight number... you enter 3lbs extra one day, it tells you that you've given up 3lbs worth of loss progress... for another example, graphs are rigid over month boundaries.. so if you made some strides in the last week of a month and then the first week of another month, well, good luck getting both those weeks on the screen to analyze). They do "get" how to make data entry easy and slick-looking though.

I did not like Sparkpeople, as it didn't account for my exercise in a day. So if I went for a 750 calorie run, it would still tell me to eat 1700 calories for the day, which was already a 500 cal deficit over maintenance, adding up to a total of 1250 calorie deficit... too much for one day, IMO. Whereas LoseIt adjusts the budget up to 2450, so then I can go and eat more stuff and know I am still on track.

Lose It is really popular. If you use the website The Daily Plate (on livestrong) there is an app for it. I downloaded Lose It but ended up deleting it because I use Firday from my computer and didn't want to have to enter my foods in two different places. So now I just access firday from the browser. Unfortunately they don't have an app or mobile site.

YES. This is an amazing app with a huge food database. I originally bought the Livestrong app (which is also amazing and I used to swear by this) but just discovered myfitnesspal.... it's the same thing except it's free, and you don't need an internet connection to use it, it's all available offline.

LoseIt is definitely nice, but the database isn't as great as these two. If it's not in the database I get lazy and just don't account for it. Throws me all off.

Lose It has had a couple of recent database updates. You can also create and enter food manually.

Some times, I do have to get the calorie info from the net.

I love MyFitnessPal . It's free. Pretty straightforward. You can enter food on the website, or on your iphone and it will sync. If you don't have an internet connection, you can enter food offline and it will sync when you connect.

mynetdiary.com is excellent and has an iPad version in addition to iPhone and a web based interface too.

I've been a customer of Diet & Exercise Assistant since they released it for the Palm OS years ago. I tried a bunch of other apps while I was waiting for them to port it over, but I went back to it shortly after they released the iPhone version, because it's the best, IMO.

Great features, obviously they keep adding more and more, but it's still really easy to use. Fully customizable when it comes to plan, and adding food (or your own recipes) couldn't be simpler.

I highly recommend it. :)

I lost 50lb using "Lost It" to track my calorie intake and exercise. I no longer use it on a regular basis. It was great to help me figure out what my own personal "burn rate" for calories was. If I slip up (holiday excess), then I will use it to get back on track.

Hmmm... not that I need to lose weight but I find it difficult to stay at the same weight. I always fluctuate. You have the food that you eat too much and then you get fat or you eat the food to lose weight. What about the food you need to eat to stay where you are once you lose the weight. Is there an app for that?
