I have a couple apps that are remote keyboards, iTap and Rowmote. I have tried emailing both of their technical supports, but no help.

I have a MacBook Pro hooked up to my HDTV as an external display. With the lid open, I can use either of these apps with no problems. But i want to use them with the lid closed. Using the wireless mighty mouse or keyboard, connected via Bluetooth, I can click the mouse or use the keyboard, and it will wake the MBP and the HDTV will show the screen. But these apps will not do that, to my knowledge. Is there any other way to accomplish this? My ultimate goal is to plop on the couch, MBP on, lid closed, and use my iPhone to wake the MBP, so I can use either of these two apps to do what I want to do. Can I hook my iPhone up to my MBP via Bluetooth and somehow get it to wake it up like my keyboard and mouse do? Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

i did it once when i had my iphone plugged into my mbp with the lid close. i woke up the phone and my mbp woke up, with the lid close. i dont remember how i did it or what i did, because i was half asleep. but i know it works.

Well first off, I have to point out that it's been said numerous times (and I don't know if it's true or not) that the Apple laptops are not meant to be run with the lids closed (corrected). The heat builds up far too easily. The Keyboard and the vent on the back near the screen hinge are the two main ways that hot air escapes. Closing the lid covers the keyboard and partially blocks those vents. I can't tell you that it's bad or not, as I've never done it, just saying what I hear if it's of interest to you.

I am a very happy owner of Rowmote. Love it. It's simple and effective. The one thing it can not do (or any other remote I know of offhand) is connect via Bluetooth. As a matter of fact, as far as I know, once a computer enters sleep mode, it is just that. Asleep. Everything is basically shut off. There are apps to keep it awake closed, but once it goes to sleep, it's out.

Via Snow Leopard, you are able to wake your machine via an Ethernet connection, but that's not what you're looking for - I know. To be honest and quick, there is no way (again, that I know of) to wirelessly wake from sleep. Rowmote Pro can do this from Ethernet, but not wirelessly.

Thought this might interest you too - never looked in to it, but it's just a standard simple wake App:
iWOL (Wake on LAN)

i did it once when i had my iphone plugged into my mbp with the lid close. i woke up the phone and my mbp woke up, with the lid close. i dont remember how i did it or what i did, because i was half asleep. but i know it works.

No, you didn't read what he asked. Wake wirelessly. Away from his laptop. Not connected by the three foot cord. Yes, the computer wakes up when the iPhone is connected. Sometimes after it's turned on, sometimes after it's simply plugged in. Most PnP devices do that - the computer knows something's plugged in or unplugged, and wakes.

i think you mean lid CLOSED?

sorry i guess i didnt read it thoroughly.

Sorry to say there is no way (at present) to wake a sleeping Mac wirelessly. Or rather, there is no way to wirelessly wake a sleeping Mac that is only connected to a network via wireless. I looked into it extensively as I previously ran a Mini wirelessly but found to wake it I needed Ethernet plugged in. So now it's hardwired to the network and I use Sleepover to wake it when I want to access my iTunes library.

Mac Wake is another utility that will do what you need and it's cheaper than iWOL. Mac Wake requires Snow Leopard, though, and a few other things...
