Hi to all in the community.

I have an external ssd drive and I want to use it for backup.
The "original" files will be in the internal drive, at a seperate partition.

What I want to do is to use an app to sync files , between internal partition drive and the external one , so as everytime I connect the drive the new/modified files will be synced automatically.

Is there any app for this?

Big Sur and APFS are messing with this type of App, big time. CCC and Super-Duper! are basically down for the count on Big Sur.
Proceed with caution. I'm using Manual Time Machine backups just now. Given my history with TM, that makes me cringe.

Just adding in some kudos and more data for anyone who finds this thread later...

I bought and downloaded ChronoSync Express at the recommendation of a few MR members... After a few months with it installed on my Mac, I have nothing but positive things to say about it.

My current use case is a USB drive that I wanted to keep an entire folder current on when compared to the same folder on my personal 2017 MBP (running Big Sur 11.4 at the moment). Sometimes I work with the files directly on the MBP internal drive, and other times I take the USB drive with the files and work with them on a Windows laptop for work.

My ChronoSync has been set up to run the synchronization any time the USB drive mounts, and it will compare both locations and make sure additions/deletions/modifications are kept up to date on both drives, regardless of where the changes occurred.

It took a couple of test runs to get things set up right, but now that it's dialed in, it's just magical. I have not even scratched the surface of what the software can do, but I really only needed it for the one use case mentioned above.

TL;DR - ChronoSync is awesome. Thanks to all who've posted about it as an available option.

? Don't know about Duper Duper but I use CCC on Big Sur regularly to make clones.

As for Chronosync, I tried using it synching to some network volumes. Had too many problems with it and now just use CCC instead.
