So I think it would be kind of nice to have an app that would turn off the gps, wifi and 3g with one button. It would make it much easier to go into a "battery friendly" mode. Maybe even turn down the brightness a bit. Anything out there like this? Couldn't be too hard to develop.

Bummer. Battery life is always in the top few most common complaints. Seems to be a good idea to make it simple to reduce battery consumption as easy as possible.

Well, keeping WiFi on constantly is the least battery drainer, so i would start there.

I usually keep my 3G off and GPS off. But when i need it, i leave GPS on. Whenever i need 3G i turn it on.

If you want bettery battery life on the go with all of those on, maybe try turning down the brightness.

Nick's last post is exactly why this would be a great app. I can also see going between settings, and would like to do it quickly to save on battery life.

Apple should at least put all these battery saving options on one screen in the settings menu.

is it that they won't allow any 3rd party access to settings? a simple toggle app wouldn't really need to run in the background would it?

It's not that in runs in the background, it's just that it has to access that kind of setting in the core files, and as far as i know you can't do that in the SDK.

Its Called Airplane Mode!

Huh? We would still like to use the phone, just not the battery draining 3G and location services.. As it's currently set up turning them off is way more trouble than it has to be.. An APP to streamline this process would be very nice..

This is why Windows Mobile phones almost always have a physical button you can press that brings up the communication control panel, displaying an on/off button for every radio in the phone, plus data control.

Some even have a separate external switch just for WiFi.

Until we have infinite batteries, some things just make sense.

Someone please tell me in the past 15 months they've done an app for this? I am sick of pressing six layers back and forth every damn time I enter work to shut off the 3G so I get service and turn on WIFI so my internet is usable. I want a one-touch solution!

I think instead of having the search page ( who uses that anyways) apple should let us make a shortcut page ( which could include a search box)

you could make a shortcut to an options setting ( turn wi-fi on off), or a contact ( call fredy) or an application ( start new text message)

this is one feature about my Sony ericsson that I miss.

20 posts before someone mentioned that? Wow, I'm impressed.

Currently the only reason my iPhone is jailbroken is to use SBSettings.
Works great especially for those times when I've opened an app and then realized I forgot to turn on my WiFi. SBSettings allows me to turn on WiFi without having to exit the app.

I used my SBsettings mostly for Location services and the AutoCorrect, very very handy.
I don't think in this forum many people jailbreak.Thats why we get this questions all the time.

Yeah I keep everything off (3G, location, wifi) when I dont need it.
