I bought bad north, the #6 ranked game in the Mac App Store. It does not run on a $3400 MacBook Pro, a max spec 2015 with the mx370 graphics card. Well it does run, at about 2 fps, so I have to resolve this with the publisher and am not eligible for a refund. A game that does not run on Mac hardware is advertised as #6 in the Mac App Store proves that the Mac App Store is a lie. Why does apple run the Mac App Store like this? They are clearly making up the rankings.

I'm not familiar with the app, but I don't think it logically follows that Apple are faking rankings because you've had an issue with an app. More likely, the app in question has lots of happy customers and a very small number of unhappy ones (such as you). Better to log a support request with the app's makers and see if they can shed any light on your issues.

Half of the reviews are from unhappy customers. A highly ranked app with only a handful of reviews, half of them 1 start "doesn't work" reviews. How can this be? I got the app to run by turning off default graphic settings. This is not a graphically intense game and I don't understand why I can run diablo 3 at max settings but this really basic isometric strategy game struggles to run. I got it to run but am not impressed at all with the game itself, and will never be using the Mac App Store again.
You can leave a star rating w/o leaving a review. People who have something to complain about are much more likely to leave a review than people who are happy or fine w/ a product. This is true of basically all review sites. But you should contact the game manufacturer for support. Apple will also refund you, sometimes past the 24 hour window, if you can explain the problem. They are pretty lenient.
