Can someone explain why Apple decided that it was a good idea to list App Store reviews from all versions of the application rather than the latest version. I feel like that is not an accurate representation of the latest version of the app

I wouldn’t say this is iOS 11 specific, but your post will probably stay. It’s only off-topic comments that seem to get deleted.

The new App store is all iOS 11 specific. Reviews used to be able to be picked for all versions or just current version. All changed with iOS 11 App Store. Not sure what you are getting at with your post. Seems rather odd and maybe off topic.

It is worse than just not sorting by the revision level. You cannot now sort by review date. That is a dreadful change. If there is a questionable app that I'm considering, I used to check the reviews for the past couple weeks or so to see if the app is improving or not. Now, you can no longer do that. This change shows that Apple does not value their customers' time. A VERY user-unfriendly move on their part.

On a somewhat related note, they also no longer give the size of updates. This was valuable information for deciding when to download them. For example, I used to just update the small ones when out and about and save the big ones for when I charged the iPad. No longer can do that.

Overall, I am very disappointed with Apple about all this.

Agreed! I ALWAYS checked reviews on updated apps in order to make an informed decision about whether to go ahead and update or not. I can't even count how many times updated apps removed useful features that I depended on or added something that I completely didn't want or need. Sometimes (often) that sort of info is omitted from the official Update Notes but is caught & reported by an earlier unhappy victim of the update. For example, had I been able to see that the NYTimes update removed its widget, I wouldn't have updated the app yesterday. Now I'm SOL and not happy about it. Not one bit.

I once wasn't sure if I should buy an app. So, I checked its reviews. Oh wow, great, several 5-star reviews! I bought the app. Later I found out the first two 5-star reviews were from 2012. I was like fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu...

Was it possible at one time to review Apple apps at the App store? Seems you can not now, which is odd since you can finally delete certain Apple apps.

Can’t believe Apple has not fixed this. Thought it was an oversight when iOS 11 launched, but now as 11.2 betas have shown, it is not being addressed. After such fanfare over the new App Store design, they made it horriblely worse by mixing reviews from the current version of an app with older versions, and inexplicably removing the ability to sort the reviews, or not even having the most recent by default. Why bother writing a review now. It will never been seen. Instead, a 5 year old review is displayed proudly doing no one any good. Apple really fell short on this and doesn’t seem incline to correct it.

AMEN AMEN AMEN !!!

Seriously! I've seen an app review from 7 years ago followed by multiple newer ones, from 5 and 3 years ago. This wasn't an isolated instance but the norm. Not helpful. I want to be able to trust that I'm not going to have Update Remorse in any flavor. A lot of those Apps of the Day (or whatever they're called now) are junky old apps with many years-old reviews.

Be nice if reviews weren't region specific either.. barely anyone in NZ leaves reviews for apps
