Has there been any info on wether the app store will implement push notifications to alert the presence of app updates? I usually only get my apps from iTunes through the mac and use the app store on my device to get updates. Having push would certainly make it handier, rather than opening the store to check, only to be often disappointed!

I haven't received any pushes that I have updates yet, so I would say I doubt it will. But, maybe many developers will send pushes when updates are made available.:)

It only makes sense to add this. Apple can easily allow the user to have Push for updates or have it fetch at a interval such as for the email. It can't be that hard really. You can do it Apple!
