App Syncing

I'm looking forward to everything about my 3G iPad except for... yep, the app syncing.

I have over 500 apps on my computer - and if I've read things correctly, I'm going to have to unselect every app I don't want on there, one by one, manually. Is that right?

If true, that's horrible. I've got around 50 iPad apps I want to sync but I'm really not looking forward to unchecking all the apps I don't want...

It was true for me on Apr 3rd but iTunes was updated yesterday, perhaps they fixed it?
If so post back your findings.

Yeah I will, but I have a feeling those were just minor fixes.

How long would you say it took you to go through and deselect/select apps?

Not long, I have maybe over 100 apps, maybe a minute or two. Incovenient but not too painful.

"To deselect all of the apps in iTunes so you can pick the few you really want to add to your new iPad, do this:

* Make sure iTunes is running, and connect your iPad to your computer with a Dock to USB cable.
* Select your iPad in the iTunes Library column.
* Click the Apps tab.
* Command-click on any app in the Apps list.

Now you can click the check boxes for just the apps you want to install, and you won’t have to deal with single apps scattered across Home Screen pages — an annoying side effect of deselecting apps one at a time."

Great link - I discovered the Cmd-click thing by accident just as I was thinking I had to manually do it for my few hundred apps as well. Very nice ... helps me dump loads of unwanted crap.

Money! Thanks so much for the tip - that'll definitely help. I'll still have to sort through all my apps to handpick the iPad ones but I'll be done with the ordeal a lot sooner now.
