Hello, I was looking for an app for watching movies in remote area (with no wifi) that allows the media to be stored on an external drive (insted on of on the iPad Pro) That app needs support with playlists + playlist shuffles.

Would you happen to know of any good apps for the iPad Pro + External hard drives.

Thank you for your time,
Andrew.

Before considering external media, keep in mind that iPadOS handles file transfer very poorly, even frequently cause file corruption on my end. Don't get too excited. Oh, don’t be surprised if suddenly your device gets disconnected mid-playback because that’s how iPadOS handles storage device back in iOS 13 days.

With that being said, if you still want to try, I use nPlayer for accessing external file provider storage (thats how apple calls it kekw). It’s paid, but easy to use, and can copy iTunes library files out to iPad local storage and transfer over. Pretty powerful.

Another vote for nPlayer. I have my videos on 4TB external drive and always stream directly from it without issues.

My vote is also for nPlayer. :)

I don't know if they still make them, but Seagate used to supply drives that were rechargable with built in wi-fi for this very reason. I have a 1TB which works well wirelessly using the Seagate Media app on the iPad.

I had one but it died and that's when I switched to a wireless FileHub that allows use on any storage device, in my case usually a 4TB HDD. I find it to be more versatile as it also has a card slot, Ethernet connectivity, and bridging to other WiFi sources (convenient in hotels that limit connections). Still, wireless connections like this or wireless drives are significantly slower than direct connects to the iPad itself or a wired hub.
