Hi all, I'm a new apple user. Sorry for my ignorance. Is there a way to block calls from private numbers? As in "unknown" or "no caller id". On my previous device it was fairly simple, but there seems to be nothing that does the same thing.
I am a developer, so developing this into an app would be trivial, but is there a bigger reason for this gap? Do Apple have a policy on calls with suppressed numbers?

Yeah android has some excellent ones. With all the apple apps out there I was surprised to not find anything to block private numbers.

To add blocking of unknown callers would require the phone to be jailbroken. App Store apps don't have access to incoming calls to block them.
A tool already exists for jailbroken phones: http://www.iblacklist.com.br
(this isn't a recommendation as I don't jailbreak.)

See above: this is only possible with a jailbreak.

Not perfect, but everytime I get a junk call/text I add it to a contact called spam caller. That contact is set up to have no ring call or notifications.

i think the OP is looking for a block for no number calls. Private, unlisted and such. I used to have an app that would send those types to VM or just dump them, my choice. Best part is you never know it till you check the log. Had an annoying ex that would call a lot from her blocked number, loved that app. I'm new to iPhone as well and am finding little annoyances like this missing feature here and there. No OS is perfect of course. I'm thinking Apple won't allow this type of app for some reason then. Strange. However, After two months in I'm liking it(mostly), just some little niggles.

Thanks everyone!

I may jailbreak, but am trying a no-tech work around. Will see how it goes:

Add all or select contacts from contact list to favorites & turn on do not disturb. blocked numbers should not come through.

Fingers crossed! :)

On the development note, I setup a project in xcode, but dreams were crushed after realising that there is no access to call/phone status programmatically. In confirmation to statements above, it seems that a software solution is certainly only available to users that jailbreak.
However, if history is anything to go by, hopefully there are enough jailbreakers that download call blocking apps to block private numbers, so that it may become part of iOS.

That works fine...so long as you have zero need of any other notifications, including texts from people on your contact list, because DND will block them all.

:D thanks.

Yeah I'm not getting any notifications at all.
I guess i will be jail-breaking then.

The good news there is that iBlacklist works very well. (Yes, I use it, and have for years.) The bad news is that it's not cheap for an app; around $12, I think. It's been worth it for me, but I really wish Apple would just put that functionality into iOS.

Doubt they will though. I've been waiting on it since 2007; not holding my breath. LOL
