Sorry if this thread exists, I just did a quick mroogle search.

I am looking for an app that will recognize swipes to skip, rewind and play/pause songs from any screen. This could be wishful thinking, but it would be nice to have sometimes.

Now I know I can just double tap the home button to bring up the controls, but sometimes this gets annoying. Also, the apps on the AppStore are geared towards when you are driving, running, not using your phone etc.

Anyone know of a cydia app like this?

First, bumping is not allowed. :)

Second, your iPhone already does this. Go to Settings, General, Home and set your double-click option to iPod. I use it while playing games, in email, web, etc.

My biggest pet peeve on forums is when people don't even read the OP and then post.

Btw, I don't think so. Is double clicking that hard?

Is double clicking that hard?

I don't know about the OP, but I have a slight mobility coordination problem, so, yes, double clicking is problematic for me. I'm successful at double clicking the home button about 50% of the time. The other times, I end up closing out of the app I'm running. :(

I usually just use SBSettings to pause the music, and if I need to do anything more involved, I just wait until I'm ready to exist the current app. But I would be happier if SBSettings included full iPod control switches, or if there were another app that allowed me to avoid having to double click the home button altogether.

It's not that double clicking the home button is completely problematic. Just the problem is that it is a little bit of a nuisance sometimes. At times, I would just like to be able to do a gesture (similiar to mQuickDo or something) to skip a song so I wouldn't have to stop looking at what I was doing.

Well, if you're running Kirikae, like I am, double clicking now brings up the task manager so yes doubleclicking is hard.

Yes, Kirikae needs to change it's access method so it doesn't hijack a system feature so many people use. Meanwhile, you can still access iPod controls by opening Kirikae and then double-clicking home again.

My biggest pet peeve is stupidity, yet here we are.

So... where you just calling yourself stupid?

You quoted the OP as saying...
Now I know I can just double tap the home button to bring up the controls, but sometimes this gets annoying. Also, the apps on the AppStore are geared towards when you are driving, running, not using your phone etc.

And then suggested...

To the OP: I think there is a Cydia app for skipping songs and such from gestures on your lockscreen. I think this would prove useful considering you mentioned it's for when you're not "using the phone" but rather driving or jogging and whatever. So the phone is probably locked otherwise the double-click wouldn't be so tough. :D

I'm not sure what the App is called, but I'll look for it.

I never realized how much I use those controls until I lost them to Kirikae. Still an awesome app though.

If we didn't already use it for SBSettings, swiping on the status bar would be great. Esp when combined with the MS extension that displays the song info in the SB for short period of time.

There used to be an app called iHome in Cydia, this allowed you to control your iphone without using the home button. Different swipes on the top edge or bottom edge of the phone would then do certain actions which would usually be done using the home button.

I'm pretty sure that the app also supported customized swipes so you could assign different functions to different swipes. Whether or not it included pause/play forward/backward I don't remember but it might be worth looking into.

As far as I know the app which used to be free was then renamed and sold for money with a free test run. But again I'm not sure what it has been renamed to... google should tell you. :)

Hope it helps,

Fabian

I believe that is now mQuickDo.

I am looking for a app to do it anywhere. What I meant by the "driving, running, not using phone etc" is that all the apps in the Apple App Store are for that, I want one for use anywhere within any app.

I have mQuickDo, but there aren't options for skipping songs etc.

Just remembered that there is this app called Volume Media... something. It changes the volume up and down buttons to song skip / back buttons. But then what happens if you want to change the volume???? Well, going to give it a try and see what happens!

They seems like it might work well. I think if I need to adjust the volume, I'll just go ahead and give it the double tap. As long as you don't enable the option to have it start music from silence, this apps works really well.

Glad to hear that works for you. Me, I seem to want to adjust the volume more frequently than I skip tracks, so I'll just stick to the regular configuration for now.

I've actually taken it off after using it for a few days. It kind of got to be annoying.

MusicControls from Phoenix-Dev (http://phoenix-dev.com/?p=mc) allows you to skip tracks/play/pause from within any app by using the DoubleHeight status bar (the one used while youre on the springboard during a phone call). You get full control over your music without doubleclicking, if you're willing to sacrifice some screen space.

Another option is the recently released "PlaySafe" on the AppStore.
Tap the screen anywhere to pause...and swipe left and right to skip tracks.

Check em out!

Except PlaySafe would only work in that app... Not any app right?
