I'm trying to find a simple and easy way to view images, and delete what I don't want. When I import a lot of photos from my camera to a desktop folder, I usually end up deleting a lot of them. Currently, I select all the photos, and hit the space bar to open them all in preview... and use the arrow keys to scroll through them. But this does not let me delete what I don't want. I have to exit out of that and delete them manually. I see apps on the App Store to create slideshows... but seems unnecessary to go through all the unnecessary steps of creating videos or anything like that. I just want to be able to open a folder of images and scroll though, and delete what I don't want as I go, without exiting. Seems like it should be so simple... and I used to have some program that did this years ago. Any recommendations?

Well, when you select them and then hit the space bar, you aren't opening them in Preview. You are opening them in Quicklook. Instead, select them all and then hit Command O and it will open them in Preview (assuming you have Preview designated to open that specific file type). Then you can go along and Command Click all the photos you want to delete and then delete them once you have selected all that you want to delete. You do have to confirm each one, which is a pain in the ass, but it does let you do what you want. You can also import them into Photos and view and delete pretty easy from there.

The problem with command click from a group of thumbnails is that often there are many pictures that are very very nearly identical (imagine taking pictures of three little girls, that refuse to sit still for a half a second.... so you have to take a ton of photos hoping to get a good in-focus shot that you like). So you need to scroll through in full size to see which are good and which are not. To open in full size, and then back out to thumbnails and select and delete takes a lot of time...

Cmd delete will move the currently previewed image to the trash.
I just select the 1st photo in my folder and Preview. Arrow keys let me move up and down in the Finder list. No need to select all pix.

Yes, this is the way I do it as well.
