I listen to some shows while doing other things, one talk show has the talk voice really low and the ads are VERY loud. Is there an app that will set the max sound such that I can turn the volume up and hear the talk without having the ads blast the speakers out?

I know in iOS you have APIs that that can control sound, but I'm wondering if there's one for OSX. It would be kinda like a sound safeguard that would probably just monitor the sound level and drop the volume if it goes too high, then restore to normal after a set period of time.

I haven't written any OSX apps, just iOS, so I don't know much about it and would rather just download one.

It's a common trick that's been used for many years. You might find the volume level is the same, some TV ads use compressed sound to get around the regulations - the peak volume is not higher, just more sound, so it's within the maximum VU meter reading.

Alternatively, use the volume keys to turn it down.

Well, what I was thinking of is the type of show where people talk and some you can't hear, so you turn up the volume, then an add or another voice comes on and it's way too loud.

I was thinking of some kind of min/max volume control. Something that will automatically adjust the volume up or down based on reading something like a UV meter like what's used in some iOS apps.

I'd probably write it myself if I knew OSX like I know iOS and I don't have any real need to learn OSX programming.

Overall, a min/max volume control would be great. How many times a day do you have to adjust the volume because of different speaking levels on YouTube and other videos?

I agree, a sound limiter would be a great application, for computers and TV's!!!

Cheers
