I'm having a recurring issue when updating a couple specific apps, specifically the Yelp and OpenTable apps.

When updating apps as usual, these two will display the normal status circle as if they are downloading/installing on the App Store update page, but will never finish and transition to 'open'. The app icon never transitions to the status 'pie' animation, the 'old' version of the app remains usable, and the App Store app continues to display the red '1' badge.

Quitting the App Store app does not do anything. Quitting the apps in question does not do anything. Shutting the phone down and restarting results in the App Store app still showing the badge and complete status circle, but the app icons themselves are greyed out and unusable. The only way I've found to fix it is to delete and re-download the apps every time they need to be updated.

Again, this is only occurring with the Yelp and OpenTable apps (out of the >100 on my phone), and it has happened every single update that they've had since at least iOS 11 (I can't say with absolute certainty that this started with the update to 11, but I believe so).

Any ideas?

Some have suggested the apps suffering this way are those that integrate with Apple Maps - Open Table and Yelp I believe do.

That said I've just started to have this same problem today but it happen for Dropbox and the British Airways app.

Maybe there is something going on server side in the run up to ios11.1 and the X launch that is creating this problem?

I too have this problem specifically with OpenTable and Yelp, but not with Uber and Lyft, which also have Maps integration. I just turn my phone off and on to force the apps to update. I had long guessed that some type of integration was the issue; I haven't tried disabling Maps integration to see if that fixes it.

App updates are a mess on iOS 11. It’s so buggy. Look at this beauty on my iPad. I have a few apps just hanging there not updating, and then that beautiful animated update spinner.

I have the same problem with OpenTable and Yelp. Have to force restart the phone everytime they release an update to get it to complete... and it seems they release updates VERY frequently.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one! I've definitely noticed several weird glitches with updates in general in iOS11, but this is the only one that continually drives me crazy. And it's so true that these two apps seem to release updates quite often, adding to the annoyance.

Just an update that with an n=1, it looks like this is fixed in iOS 11.1. Just updated Yelp and went through fine.

Hmm...I am still having the same issues with Yelp and Opentable on iOS 11.1...

:(

I just updated OpenTable today for the first time since 11.1 and the hang happened again, but resolved itself within an hour or two. Perhaps the same will happen for you, if you just updated them recently?

yeah that's one of the bugs. What you should know is forget about any circles completing just press install and forget about it, the apps do install.

Still a PITA installing and moving each app one by one specially if the device is not last generation, if Apple was gonna remove installing the apps via the PC and MAC at least they should have "polished" their Apps app...but wait, they are "busy" making millions...

Haven’t had an issue with this yet on 11.2 Beta FYI.
