Hopefully not a bug, I just updated all my apps whilst on 4g and the biggest update was over 350mb. Previously this was restricted to 150mb whilst using mobile data, so good news!

I’m guessing this is a bug because I just tried updating an app that was 700+mb and I got a message saying I need to connect to wifi to download an update bigger than 150mb

So it appears anything below 500mb is working at the moment

One of the dumbest things about iOS. That and no ability to download an OS update over cellular. LTE is everywhere and many have access to unlimited data. Just give us the option please

This. I don’t have Wi-Fi at work and have beefed up data plan because of this and Apple won’t let me use it. Then I’ll have to consciously install iOS updates or app updates or whatever when I get home.

Isn’t this the thing where the displayed size is the size of the full app but updates are delta updates - just the differences - so smaller than the full size?

Or did they fix that? It always seemed silly they didn’t just display the update size but perhaps it was because calculating that required you to start the download or whatever.

Anyway, things might have changed but I think that used to be a thing.

Given the speed some of my apps updated at today despite saying they have a combined 2GB of updates to apply... yeah, I think it's still a thing.

Supposedly they changed that, but certainly seems hard to tell if that's really the case.

It is. I tryed to update facebook app 500mb yesterday and it failed.
Ok, slightly OT, but why the hell would the Facebook app be that big?!?! I uninstalled it ages ago (just use the website every month or two, these days) but yeah - 500MB seems more than a little excessive, doesn't it?

Hmm, that’s quite an oddly written article.

I just checked, there was an Outlook update today listed as 320.5MB. That’s almost certainly the full app size. It’s what’s listed on the app page too. And it was last updated just a week ago, so there’s very little chance they’re bundling in that many changes.

[doublepost=1537899421][/doublepost]I couldn’t find a recent app update which didn’t just list the size that’s on the app page.

Therefore I feel fairly confident in saying that if app updates are delta updates, the size listed against them is meaningless and most updates will be less than 150mb which is why you can download them on cellular.

Unfortunately you have no idea what you are talking about. Try going to South America, Africa, or many countries from Asia and see what are the prices for 4g internet. Also in Europe, except countries from European Union and some Balkan countries, the mobile internet is expensive. Of course, probably Apple doesn't count on big sales in those countries, but my response was about your statement because it is false, not that many people have access to unlimited data

I’m talking about iOS in the United States, Canada, UK, wherever Apple caters to the most with product launches. Apple clearly doesn’t hold back products and features in their main nations just to appease or cater to those that may not have certain luxuries. iOS varies around the world. Some nations don’t have Apple Pay or News, etc. in the US, Canada, Australia, etc., LTE and Unlimited LTE are VERY common. So before you come at me and say I have no idea what I’m talking about, just chill. The 150mb limit in the age of fast and unlimited cellular data is a joke and needs to be lifted.

China too. China Mobile have been pretty aggressive recently about moving people onto Unlimited plans. I went from 4GB to unlimited (throttled after 30GB) for the same price as before.

Now you made this clear. Before not. So do not try to act like your statement was about the countries you mentioned in your latest post because it was not. It was general because you didn't point out any country, so what I said was justified.

I agree that it is a stupid thing to limit downloads, the user should be able to make a choice about this. But many things at Apple are like this.

Then what you get are the numbskulls who turn the option on ("how DARE Apple limit me!") and blow through their data, and then Apple has to listen to them whine. Apple is a singular very large target and disclaimers are meaningless.

It's the way things are. As a group, people are stupid.

Having had worked in Apple Support this is true. There are limits in place which seem pointless, but there is a reason for them. You can tell someone to use something at their own risk, and when it goes wrong or they mess up, they don't take personal responsibility and blame anyone else they can.

Remember, for an Entitled person, it's everyone's fault but their own, no matter what the issue is.

The truth of the matter is that by that description, we are ALL entitled people, as every one of us has acted this way one time or another.

Apple thinks you are the kid, and they are your parent.

Sometimes I like this approach, sometimes I hate it.

This is what they get when they play their ridiculous hunting game ”who is sued next and for what and how much money i will get?”. Apple is just in a lifeboat so no one cant sues apple and demands 1M dollars because their data plan went over...

Dont you ever think why companies have those ridiculous labels like in a mug ”hot coffee” . When rest of the world is laughing at it, on one part of the world this is a real life.

Apple doesnt think you are a kid, they are doing their part in a circus. But i dont know why an earth rest of us needs to suffer of their syndrome...
