App updates installer files - temporary or permanent

1. When an update for an app is downloaded is the installer always deleted after the update?
2. If not how does one delete the installer after the update?

Hello. It depends on the apps. Some (like say, autocad) might download a .dmg file that is in your downloads folder.
But most don't do it that way, and there's no installer to delete.

Thanks for the reply. What about MS Office? The updates are usually close to 1GB. Do they linger somewhere after the update using up disk space?

I don't think so. MS Office has an app that deals with these updates, and doesn't download any .dmg file, if you update from the app.

If there's a download file, it [almost] always will be in your downloads folder.

OK. So if a dmg file is left in downloads I can safely delete it to cleanup otherwise the app specific update cleans up after itself?

Yes, that's exactly like that.

However, if for some reason any app-specific-autoupdate doesn't work (for office, or OS X, or other program) you usually can go to the respective website, download the dmg yourself and update. After you do that, you should delete de .dmg.
