I have had this problem from day 1. App Updates will not install due to unknown error. I was hoping the fix would have been in 2.1 but for me it was not.

The only way for me to install (95% of the time) is I have to delete the app from my iPhone to get the new version to install. This in almost every case loses the local data.

Is there a workaound? Very fustrated.

I was having the same problem, I was hoping the upgrade to 2.1 would fix it but it didn't. I wound up restoring the phone to a clean 2.1 (and did NOT restore my data -- just resynced it) and ever since then it's been perfectly fine.
