I'm in a Discussion thread in announcements regarding the latest Firmware updates on older AP but thought to create a sole thread for perpetuity in case there are others affected. Also, if this rather belongs in the Developer Forum, pls feel free to move it there mods.

It's happened before that odd version updates have appeared (alongside official releases) on my iP for available updates to the APP2. Please note that I never signed up for any Beta programs on any devices and only the AirPods seem affected.

So I've just contacted AC. Initially they said they don't provide active support to beta versions, which is all fine and good but doesn't address the issue that it is being pushed onto my AirPods. Apparently the beta 7B13d that appeared after being on 7A305, isn't even the latest beta version.

After some screen sharing, looking in various settings, including privacy, no hint of developer Mode could be found. This was expected from my end. Communication with next tier support also didn't see an immediate solution. They did however say they were aware of the issue.

So all that's left is a suggested Genius appointment to the nearest Apple Store, to inspect the devices by a tech. I'll update further once I've gone there.

This is clearly not a hardware problem, so I don't see what they want to inspect.
They'll probably offer you a new pair anyway.

I don't know either. They just said more technical diagnostics can be performed there rather than with phone support. Whilst this is true, isn't this rather a Server issue/ setting their end? There's certainly no hint of Dev or Beta access in my iP or the APP2.

So here on MR the new Firmware 7B19 has just been officially announced for the APP2. So whilst appealing to update, I guess I'll tread carefully so it doesn't overwrite the beta that's currently installed and the version I want Apple to see for the appointment next week. Either way I've taken a screenshot of its existence.

There's no way to prevent the Airpods from updating automatically unless they never connect to one of your devices. Given that there's now a release version of the firmware available, it hardly seems worth a trip to an Apple Store.

True but I don't use the AP really that often. Having said that, I'm assuming they won't update if the case isn't on charge. If the current Beta on there was an isolated case I might leave it at that but I do recall having more Betas on there in the past and discussing on MR that members in fact don't have the latest firmware and questioning Apple's site not updating same. So I'm working off the premise that 7B19 will install but will also the next available Beta after that. But then again even that's not a certainty as Apple today told me that 7B13d Beta isn't the latest available.

If it's the Lightning model you have, then Apple accidentally pushed the beta update to public users a few weeks back.
Brilliant, thank you, as I do indeed have the Lightening version. Prior to starting this thread someone else mentioned this "accident" on a Firmware update post I also commented on regarding my issue, and I just this minute asked them for the source.

Would you possibly have more info or perhaps a link? I'd like to take all info I can to the Apple Store appointment that I have next week.

Edit: it would appear it's from X, that I don't use but the source is MR? Yup, would definitely appreciate a link to the original MR article if you have it. Struggling to find it.

I don't actually know if any sites covered the accident, just that the beta update was released.

The only sources I've seen are this tweet and anecdotal posts on here such as yours and on Reddit.

An update to the Genius Bar appointment today:

they plugged a cable in and were none the wiser. Unfortunately the APP2 updated magically from the Beta to the latest official firmware 7B19, not sure how exactly as I made sure BT was off and the Case wasn't plugged into power. I did have a screenshot of the Beta on my phone.

So it's been now escalated to tier 4 who will call me in the morning. I'll update afterwards.
