I was posting recentley about parting with a newish 2.3ghz system because i wanted PCIexpress in the new systems (and so a spangly 7800 GT when they arrived so my gaming would be that much nicer) well things didnt work out totally as planned and i didnt have enough cash for the 2.3Ghz Dual-Core - If i could have bought it it would have been basic spec and would have left me broke more or less :p so that left me with the 2.0 Dual Core option. Which seemed like a downgrade.

Thats when i looked at some PC configs for the same money. Well i actually became weak and ordered a PC system - Athlon 64 X2 4400+, 2GB RAM, 7800 GTX... yes it was so beautiful.. but i wasent particular excited because i knew i had to use Windows - Well by some qwirk of fate the order was stoped because they ran out of the RAM i ordered (typical eh) -- Well i cancled the order completley... ummed and arred over the choices again and tried to place a new order - it wouldnt go through. Seems the company is having a bit of a tizzy about my last placed order and any new orders  so im going to have to wait 3 days or so... even after i placed the first order though i was still feeling miserable. Sure i can play a few great games im looking forward too at droolness resolutions - but... Windows. I tried to get excited about 'Vista' but the more i looked at the screenshots the more depressed about getting a PC i felt. This is unlike me, i should be extatic... i mean... Athlon 64 X2 4400+ !!!! but no :(

Thats when it happend... just now.....

Apple PowerMac G5 Dual Core 2GHz
- Apple NVIDIA GeForce 6600 - 256MB SDRAM
- Apple 250GB - Serial ATA 7200rpm
- Apple 1GB - 533 DDR2 Non ECC SDRAM (2x512MB)
- Apple Bluetooth & Airport Extreme upgrade
Apple iSight Camera

To hell with it. I know there are things i cannot do with OSX that were more of a problem than i thought (webcam chats with ppl on MSN isnt viable anymore) but damn OSX was something special - I liked using it. So hopefully i made the right choice and wont be weeping into my Mighty Mouse in a few days time because i didnt go for that spangly PC with its uber spec.

Yeah just looking for some sympathy incidentally ;) so... sympothize away! lol

Oh man, that sounds like a HOT machine! :) (the mac)
As for MSN webcam? Use Mercury or aMSN. I haven't used either because I'm more of an Adium kinda gal, but I have heard those mentioned.

Just remember-- the althlon CAN'T RUN OS X.
Ah, Apple.. what a nice OS you have.

You WON'T be weeping into your mighty mouse.. and another good thing: you get to keep hanging out here and not get made fun of! :p

Really? You sure? *cough*

:p

Anyway, nice setup (both of them, actually :p). Vista isn't much to get excited over, so no loss there.

I really don't like Vista at all. It looks... like Windows XP with a big fugly bar down the side and fuzzy see-through windows.

I remember the beta of XP, Whistler -- The themes for that in the alpha looked very 'professional'. There was going to be a pro theme in it originally - then they decided to scrap it and go LUNA EVERYTHING. While at first it was 'oh cool looks nice' soon becomes a real headache. I just can't come to terms with having to click a 'Start' button again :p

Now vista... cool 'Flip' effect but they are cloging the interface up even more now -- sidebars and fuzzy see-through windows. Big huge buttons. I don't like the way they are going -- The beta of office 2006? think its 2006 who can remember :p looks awful. HUGE ass buttons everywhere, bit like 'My First Office'.

Hold your tongue! :p

and yea-- if you want to run vista, just skin XP. It'll look the same and probably perform about the same, too.

Mmmm, Leopard, you will come out before Vista and kick BUTT and I will smile and laugh, and attend your release party at my apple store and win another PowerBook.

Word.
here

Is that the right one?
Nope, it's not the right one. For one thing it doesn't have a dual-link DVI to support a 30" Display. Unless it says Mac compatible, I would avoid unknown video cards.

Second we don't know if the power connectors will be compatible with what Apple has in the system.

Apple will have the board available to order seperately once they start getting them in.

Bring it on red! You'll go down faster than a Windows pc!

Umm, Altoids sound good at the moment. You anywhere near downtown? :)

That's not fair. I don't have any homies there. I'm just the weird guy that always wears Apple shirts...

No sympathy from me, as you did just what I'd have done--sure you can get a fancy Windows box for about the same amount, but that's a really kickass Mac you're buying, and I'd be all kinds of happy about having one (I've got a 1st gen dual 2.0, and it's *sill* an awesome computer after quite some time).

Besides, a year or so down the road you can save up some cash and put a whole heap of RAM (particularly when 2GB sticks come down in price) and a better graphics card in it, and it'll be even cooler. Save your pennies!

Not having a whole lot of luck at the moment :p

Computer Warehouse called to let me know they didn't have the Graphics Card, Hard Drive or Bluetooth/Airport parts in stock yet from Apple. So they would have to send it to them to upgrade it so +14 days. :(

If i drop iSight and Bluetooth/Airport i can just about afford the 2.3Ghz PM with a Gig of RAM. If i sell a family member ;) Which will be here a lot quicker than 14 days... still deciding if its worth it or not, the extra £££ that is for .3Ghz :p
