I've just come back from the Bluewater Apple Store.

Whilst there I looked at the Cinema Displays. They had all 3 sizes out.

The 30" was lovely - really even brightness, great colours.

Then I got to the 23". I was shocked, really gobsmacked.

It looked appalling. I mean awful. There was a pink cast to all the colours. I couldn't believe it could be that bad, so I checked the colour profiles and they were correct. I even tried all the other profiles and none of them got rid of the pink.

I really thought Apple would have sorted this problem by now.

i'm surprised their store ones are doing it. i thought it was just the ones they gave to the customers :rolleyes

I thought (hoped really) that had been fixed a while ago... I wonder how old that model is on display? We're ordering 3 for work soon and I'll be sending them right back if they're like that.

Those weren't the rose-coloured glasses Mac users normally use?

That's sad that they wouldn't have returned the display as defective. Do the sales people ever notice anything other than the time?

Exactly. I mean what the hell are they thinking having such a clearly defective product out on display? They've done a great job putting me off buying one and herding me towards the Dell website.

The staff there are generally very helpful, but honestly they seem to know a lot less than they should about computers in general, and that includes the "Genius" bar.

I would never thing that the ones at the apple store would be THAT bad, i mean they always the best ones on show.

It's no better in the states. I've visited Apple stores in California, Floriduh, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania and found that the level of expertise to be a bit lower than expected. Still, it's rather typical of technology stores and I'd be surprised that High Street is all that different. Incompetence is a worldwide trait, is it not? :D

I can tell you that Apple products are better than average and that, while cautious, I would probably buy the 23 inch LCD without reservation. However, I would hold them to a high standard.

If I bought it from that certain store, I would question the manager about the placement of a defective unit on the sales floor.

I have not visited the local Apple store (Southpoint, Durham, NC) for a while, but at the time of my last visit there they had four 23'' ACDs, of which two were blatantly pink. The same displays had been on "display" for at least a month. Early on I mentioned this to one of the "geniuses", and she had acknowledged the defect but apparently nobody cared. This is a strange attitude, to say the least...
