Here's the phone number to these scammers that are spoofing the Apple phone number on incoming calls but then asking you to call back at this number saying there is a problem with your Apple account.

Please call this number to help tie up their lines. Obviously don't give them any information.

They'll tell you they're in Cupertino. I like to ask what the weather is in Cupertino right now. One guy said "25". I reminded him we don't use the metric system here and that 25 was really cold. He hung up. The hold prompt voice is also of British decent. Hmmm

(855) 200-5493

If you are smart enough to figure out they are a fake, they are not interested in you.
Same reason all those spam emails with fake addresses and horrible spelling still exist. They are not stupid not to know what they are doing, they are just trying to find people who are stupid enough to not notice.

I received a couple of emails yesterday about my apple account "problem" and I should click a link to solve the issue. I find it fascinating that they have my account email. Only three sites have the email and have anything to do with Apple products directly or indirectly.

But ---
if the number is spoofed, shouldn't you simply block the spoofed number, too?

IMHO, incoming calls are the issue.
(How many times have you had totally unexpected calls from your Apple store. :D )
And, you would unblock the number on that decidely-rare time when you know that the store would be calling you.

I was bored one day when a scammer called and managed to keep him on the line for 45 minutes before he started screaming. Play dumb, ask tons of questions, go on about how you are worried about viruses and how a friend once got sick form one, walk off to get your wallet, come back to see if he is still there and ask all kinds of questions; plug and unplug that internet thing in the wall...

If you are bored there are plenty of things to keep him busy; just keep him hoping you'll give him a valid credit card.
