Apple today added support for Live Activities in Shazam, its free music discovery and identification app.

Shazam's Live Activities keep the user updated when searching for music in the background, which is particularly useful when multitasking or identifying songs in other apps. The last significant update to Shazam arrived in January, allowing users to identify songs from other apps while listening with headphones.

Apple acquired Shazam in 2018, and has been gradually bringing the app into closer alignment with ‌Apple Music‌ ever since, offering trials to the streaming service through the app and the ability to sync Shazams directly to ‌Apple Music‌.

Shazam can be downloaded from the App Store for free. It can be accessed through the Control Center on ‌‌iPhone‌‌ and ‌‌iPad‌‌, through ‌Siri‌ commands, or on the Mac, as well as via widgets. Version 17.11 of Shazam is now available.

Apple opened up its Live Activities API to third-party iPhone apps with the release of iOS 16.1 in 2022, and many developers have since made good use of the feature.

Anyone know if it’s possible to “sync” my Shazam’s from Control Centre into my Shazam’s when I open the app? I’m not sure if it’s kept separate for a reason and what that reason might be.

Shazam was a great App until Apple bought them.
It baffles me how bad Shazam is after many years of one of the richest companies ownership.

This is yet another proof that there's a huge problem with Apple's Software department and development.
It seems no investment is being made and all those software Apps are treated as an after thought.

Until Tim Cook goes that will continue to be the case

That's the problem with Shazam. Apple thinks of it as an upselling machine.
Never added any new features or AI-capabilities. Just a forgotten App. Probably managed by an Intern.

How does this work? When I Shazam and quickly close my phone before the song is recognised a Live Activity appears.

But when I use Auto Shazam in the background and then close my phone, I get push notifications as before.

So what’s the purpose of the Live Activity tile then?

Two different use cases I guess? I’m not sure it does anything useful for me!

I like that Apple has integrated Shazam into iOS so you can now say “hey Siri, what song is this”

And it will instantly tell you the name of the song (without having to even open the Shazam app)
